"Wound (If I Wait)"
The Smashing Pumpkins
Machina Acoustic Demos

My awesome friend Anna gave me this CD of their Machina demos for my birthday one year and it was such a great gift. Sometimes you just can't beat acoustic songs and they are perfection. AND he says "pop tart" in it and I am obsessed with those yum yums.

Not much musicall to comment on as it's just a basic song that is made better by Billy Corgan's voice, which really, could be said about much of his stuff. I think his distinctive voice is really what makes a lot of their songs.

Wound opens reveal a broken man
Soon notions, blood on his hands
Stop, stop, pop tart
Taste of your demands

If you wait, I will wait
If you taste, I will taste
If you run, I will run
If you love, I will love
To my last prayer

Tomb opens reveal a stack of gold
Cool poison, the taste of growing old
Sit down, downtown
In your tower of steel

If you wait, I will wait
Taste, I will taste
If you run, I will run
Love, I will love
To my last prayer
My last prayer
To my last prayer

Wound opens reveal a broken man
Soon notions, blood on his hands

If you wait, I will wait
Taste, I will taste
If you run, I will run
Love, I will love
To my last prayer

If you wait, if you wait
If you wait, if you wait

"The District Sleeps Alone Tonight"
The Postal Service
Give Up

I *heart* The Postal Service. (I also *heart* the USPS.) I don't think this is their best song, but I tend to give it a higher review than I normally would because of it's title. Because, not only do I *heart* The Postal Service, but I *heart* DC.

The best part of the song is 3 minutes in when it picks up in tempo and Ben Gibbard starts singing about the 'gaudy apartment complex", otherwise, it can be a tad slow. I love it, I do, but it's not their best work. And I have to admit, I always thought he sang, "bloody apartment complex"! Dammit, I always sing the wrong words.

Ben Gibbard's lyrics beat all.

Smeared black ink
Your palms are sweaty
And I'm barely listening
To last demands
I'm staring at the asphalt wondering
What's buried underneath where I am

I'll wear my badge
A vinyl sticker with big block letters
Adherent to my chest
That tells your new friends
I am a visitor here: I am not permanent
And the only thing keeping me dry is where I am

You seem so out of context
In this gaudy apartment complex
A stranger with your door key
Explaining that I am just visiting
And I am finally seeing
Why I was the one worth leaving

D.C. sleeps alone tonight

You seem so out of context
In this gaudy apartment complex
A stranger with your door key
Explaining that I am just visiting
And I finally seeing
Why I was the one worth leaving

The district sleeps alone tonight
After the bars turn out their lights
And send the autos swerving
Into the loneliest evening
And I am finally seeing
Why I was the one worth leaving

I love me some bagpipes! I'm not exactly sure how to review a song that is all bagpipes, but basically, when looking for a good bagpipes song, I would recommend one that isn't too long. This one, clocking in at about 2 minutes is perfect. Bagpipes tend to sound the same after awhile so it's best to just get the melody in, play it, play the 'chorus' and get out of there. And now, after having seen live bagpipes and drum groups, I can picture them all marching around. FUN!

The Birthday Party

I bought this CD only because of their song "Mr. Clarinet Man" and really haven't listened to it much otherwise.

I like the lines using "chinny chin chin." What fun! I wouldn't exactly put this song on a party mix, but it's interesting and with about a minute left it picks up some and he sings his "chinny chin chin" lines:) The end is a bunch of feedback from the guitars and then it just stops. Eh, not the best.

I, cigarette fingers
puff and poke
puff and poking the smoke
touches the ground

You, your lungs and your wrists
they throb like trains
choo choo choo
it's a prison of sound

of sound

She, by my chinny chin chin [buying chilly chin-chin?]
Eee-oh Eee-oh
Like a zippo smokes the way
hope, around

You, your lungs and your wrists
they throb like trains
choo choo choo
It's a prison of sound

a prison of sound

She, by the hair of my chinny chin chin
Eee-oh Eee-oh Eee-oh Eee-oh
Like a zippo smokes the way
hope, around

You, your lungs and your wrists
they throb like trains
choo choo choo
it's a prison of sound

I poke around...

"Round The Bend"
Beck
Sea Change

My sister is a bigger Beck fan than I am and I got this album from her. I was all about him in middle school when "Loser" came out and we all tried to figure out what exactly he was saying. Then, in college I was all about the song "Debra" and played it on my radio show each week.

This is a very slow song and not of his typical style. I'm not too into it and, in fact, keep forgetting I'm reviewing this song. It's all right, I guess, but it's too damn slow. I can't get into it.

We don't have to worry
Life goes where it does
Faster than any bullet
From an empty gun
Turn yourself over
Loose change we could spend
Grinding down diamonds
Round, round, round the bend
Round, round, round the bend

People pushing harder
Up against themselves
Making their daggers sharper
Then their faces tan
Babe, it's your time now
Loose change we could spend
When we're going
Round, round, round the bend
Round, round, round the bend
