"Go On Drone"
Hey Mercedes
Loses Control

Number of listens before I knew what to write: .5
Stars: 5 (out of 5)

I LOVE THIS SONG!!!! I've seen Hey Mercedes (now broken up, *moment of silence* please) over 10 times so I know their songs pretty well. Well, in anticipation of their 2nd full length album I was ecstatic when they toured with the new songs. I remember emailing Bob Nanna the second I got home to tell him how much I loved them, especially the one that said, "Stop the press." This song.
Bob Nanna is a master of lyrics, in my opinion. He uses all of those fancy things like alliteration and other big words I can't think of right now. He creates memorable songs because you know he really believes what he's singing about. The things he comes up with can not be made up, he has to draw from real life inspirations and that is why I love Hey Mercedes so much.
Musically this song is very pleasant yet exciting at the same time. It starts off with just the guitar "droning" if you will. Bob sets the stage (or bar) with Damon's drumming instantly creating a rythm that requires moving from it's listener. Bob Nanna sings the word "sexy," I swoon and from there it quickly takes off. Enter Mike with my favorite Hey Mercedes trick-2 voices. It's nothing special, or new, but it works so well. Especially in this song with the two different lines overlapping.

Sarah slides up to the bar and orders me
the strongest thing this side of armor street
she's got the saddest eyes i've ever seen
when she says
oh baby were you ever meant to be
well maybe
now sexy don't get so excited
besides
you're so much cuter when you try to fight it
your're filling up the room with that terrible gloom
and the mere thought of a turnaround is bring the whole place down
stop the press
who is that mess
go on drone
we've never been so impressed
go on drone
stay home
afraid of the phone and famously alone
go on drone
true love might be fun for some
but we know that it's just too tough
is there the proper power left to hold us in
so we'd stay golden
so i'm always working on new grand ways to avoid
doing any work on everything
that could amount to anything
the poor poor cat
don't lie like that
in regret's bed
in beads of sweat
blurry head
ruby red
not yet deceased
undead instead
hardly home de chez rainbow
je ne sais quai
je taime cell phone

we know you know how
don't you drone
we know you know
stop the press
who is that mess
go on drone
we've never been so impressed
go on drone
stay home
afraid of the phone and famously alone
go on drone
we are all done now
